Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Chair of Diversity Education and International Educational Research will hold a conference entitled “Diversity Education in a Global Society – National Concerns and Transnational Influences” from 18th to 20th of October 2017.

Even though most modern societies have faced the challenge of diversity for a long time, in the past three decades the complexity of diversity seems to have increased, in particular due to global migration, trends towards individualization and due to the formation of new social movements. These developments challenge national systems of education worldwide. The conference examines the changing patterns of diversity in different national settings and discusses transnational influences on the countries’ national discourses and practices in school education. Papers and poster presentations will explore educational and interdisciplinary perspectives on diversity and thus contribute to the development of a concept of diversity education for a global society. Special attention will be paid to the educational systems in Germany and Malaysia. Both national systems of education struggle to secure equality and quality of education with respect to diversity.

The conference will be held as a part of the project “Pupils’ Diversity and Success in Science Education in Germany and Malaysia”. The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of its programme “Higher Education Dialogue with the Muslim World”.
